About
The 13th Annual Chilirhea Charity Cook-off is set for Saturday, March 10, 2018 from noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Fayetteville, AR.
Started in 2004 as an opportunity to reunite with old college friends, the first chili cook-off, dubbed "Chilirhea, 11 was held in the backyard of a Fayetteville home. With approximately 15 people in attendance, the event was deemed a success, and the annual event was born.
Just 5 years later, amid a snow and ice storm, the event had grown to 15 teams participating with over 125 people gathered on the lawn. Despite the weather conditions of 2009, the Chilirhea Cook-off was a popular event and it was clear the group was onto something.
By 2010, the popularity of Chili rhea had grown substantially, and the group felt the time was right to give back. Various members of the founding Chilirhea group had family members who had been affected by Alzheimer's, so the decision was made that the proceeds of the Chilirhea Cook-off would benefit three Arkansas beneficiaries - Alzheimer's Arkansas, the Broyles Foundation and the UAMS Reynolds Institute on Aging.
The Chilirhea Cook-off has grown from its grassroots beginnings to become a premier event in the area. This past year, the organization raised over $100,000 bringing its overall total to over $350,000 raised for Alzheimer's.
