About
The Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs, or as we call it, “the Fed,” has been the home of the Austin Swing Syndicate since 1999 (the building was built in 1931). Our Thursday night dance is one of the longest, most well attended weekly swing dance events in the country! We host intro classes every week and you never need a partner. Most Thursdays we have 2 rooms for dancing. The second room for dancing is called the Georgian Room and the music and dance style changes depending on the week. Please register for the next Thursday event below to RSVP. GivePulse account registration not required.
THURSDAY SCHEDULE 8:00: Doors open 8:15: Intro swing class (Main Ballroom) 8:15: Side room classes (Georgian Room and Art Gallery) 9pm – Midnight: Dancing (Main Ballroom and Georgian Room)
PRICING Fees will be collected at the door on Thursday. Inquire about Austin Swing Syndicate memberships at the Fed. $5 members / $8 non-members (regular nights) - $7 members / $10 non-members (live band nights — see our Facebook page for updated event information)
Unless this is a special event, you can expect to dress comfortably — jeans, t-shirts, and tennis shoes are fine for your first time out. The Fed is a family-friendly environment. We pride ourselves on being a very diverse group. On any given night there may be over 300 people. While the highest percentage of people are approximately age 22-29, the ages range from middle school and high school students on up to people in their 50s, 60s, and above.
Various forms of swing dances are taught and danced in our side room. After each of these lessons, music that easily lends itself to the practice of that dance is played throughout the evening. 1st Thursdays – Blues lesson and dancing 2nd Thursdays – Balboa lesson and uptempo dancing 3rd Thursdays – Lindy Hop lesson and dancing to the Jam Band in the Art Gallery 4th Thursdays – Collegiate Shag lesson and uptempo dancing 5th Thursdays – Special programming announced during current month! |
