About
The Magnetosphere employs ferrous metal objects coupled with electromagnets carefully controlled by software and electronics to perform a one-hour looping music composition as a sound installation. Spectators are invited to experience the acoustic objects within the space as they walk between the notes of chords, harmonies, and melodies ricocheting a call and response from wall to wall.
Notes on the Classification of Spectral Lines, the Art of Water Writing, and Other Important Ephemera is the first collaboration between Rebecca Whitehurst and Stephen Pruitt, a mish-mash of short vignettes about topics ranging from baseball signs to the feminist history of astrophysics; the apparent absence of alien life to the sparseness of West Texas radio stations; and from the deconstruction of the music of Les Miserables to the economic game theory of Schelling’s Focal Points and what they can tell us about decoding secret messages. All get jammed together in 80 minutes of lecture, dance and storytelling.
