hackathon is the only youth and diversity-focused annual hackathon, 100% organized and operated by students of color, in the United States.
hackathon is held on the campus of Huston-Tillotson University. Located in East Austin,

Huston-Tillotson University is Austin’s oldest university and only HBCU (Historically Black College and University).

hackathon takes place annually, as people from around the world descend on the Lonestar State for

SXSW Interactive. The focus of our two-day hackathon is to educate, engage, and empower millennials of color. Our

hackathon wants millennials of color to recognize that they can be more than consumers of technology, they too can be creators, innovators, and disruptors of tomorrow’s technology and digital space.

2015 marked the inaugural year of this now annual program. More than 50 participants (high school and undergraduaduates) spent the first weekend of SXSW paired with software developers, designers and other industry professionals. This year, selected students will develop a mobile app that solves a problem in the business, education, entertainment or health and fitness industries.

hackathon is committed to being a part of the solution to the lack of diversity in today’s technology pipeline, by serving as an information and social capital conduit, connecting talent-seeking companies to phenomenal millennials of color.
