Oakland Digital Arts & Literacy Center (ODALC) works to increase digital literacy and opportunity among small business owners, local design students and entrepreneurs. In the 21st century, a constant point of contact between businesses and consumers is through the Internet, mobile devices and other digital avenues. Oakland Digital helps small businesses create new business models that will better reach customers. Through programs and classes we teach community college students how to turn their love for design into promising careers. Oakland Digital bridges the gap between passionate, multicultural business owners and budding design professionals and real world opportunities in a digital savvy age.
Oakland Digital (ODALC) educates, inspires, and empowers underserved communities to participate and succeed in the digital economy. We are a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, public benefit organization bridging the digital literacy and opportunity divide through two programs:INSPIRE Program
Professional development for design students providing students the motivation and career-related resources they need to find appropriate employment.
Digital Equity Program
Small business development program that mentors small business owners with direct, hands-on training in digital tools, social media applications, and marketing concepts.
Since launching on July 31, 2009, Oakland Digital has empowered the lives of 2,400 underserved Oakland small business owners, design students, and entrepreneurs. Oakland Digital was founded by a group of technology professionals who left the corporate world to provide high quality educational resources to the underserved population of Oakland, CA. We continue to source volunteers from the technology and business community, and we are one of the founding partners of Get Connected Oakland!, a citywide initiative to eliminate the digital divide throughout the city by making it as simple as possible for everyone to have broadband Internet access along with training and technical support. Oakland Digital has been featured on new media platforms domestically and internationally while actively striving to increase diversity and provide equal opportunity within our community.
