Springfield Community Gardens (SCG) is on a mission to create gardens that strengthen neighborhoods where people grow healthy relationships, food, and community.
Tom Watkins Community Farm is in it's infant stage. We are currently working on making compost, designing garden beds, planting fruit forests, making hugelkulture beds, and mulching. Volunteering at Tom Watkins community farm gives you the opportunity to learn more about the soil food web, how compost works, starting a garden, proper planting and harvest techniques, and how to grow healthy soil which in turns grows healthy food. Tom Watkins garden leader is very knowledgeable in soil and compost science so come with questions and ready to learn.
Close toe shoes is required, best to bring water and gloves. There is no bathroom on site so be sure to go before you come.
