Reading Partners

About

Description
Reading Partners is a nonprofit organization that provides literacy intervention programs at elementary schools in low-income communities. At each school, our program transforms a classroom into a Reading Center, and recruits community volunteers from all walks of life to serve as one-on-one tutors for struggling student readers.

Currently, Reading Partners serves 101 elementary school sites nationwide, in California, Colorado, Texas, Maryland, Washington DC, and New York.

Volunteers work with one student for at least one semester, using a highly structured curriculum that was developed in partnership with Stanford University. No previous experience is required, as all initial training and ongoing support is provided by a full-time staff Site Coordinator, who supervises volunteers and acts as the link between our program and the school.

Mission: Reading Partners' mission is to expand the life opportunities of children in low-income communities by empowering them with strong literacy skills.
