Golden Oak Montessori of Hayward School

About

Golden Oak is a vibrant provider of high-quality public Montessori education to a socioeconomically disadvantaged community of students in grades 1 through 8.

Nearby public schools suffer from poor test scores and large student to teacher ratios. We employ the Montessori method which takes a project-based, multi-age, and whole citizen curriculum approach to children in grades 1 through 8. Our director and teachers support children in being active learners who care for their environment, value their diverse community, and who think and work both independently and collaboratively.

The State of California provides inadequate funding for schools, ranking 49 out of 50 in per student funding. Our school is governed by a board of amazing parents and Montessori experts and operated by Deirdre Fennessy, a 30+ year expert in Montessori and school administration.

We are looking for individuals to help us in furthering Golden Oak's mission.

Mission: The Mission of Golden Oak Montessori School is to provide students in grades one through eight in the Hayward area with the opportunity to acquire an education based on the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, with an emphasis on independent learning; hands-on materials for a holistic education; and mixed-age classrooms to encourage mutual teaching. Our school will actively recruit and serve a culturally, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse group of students reflective of the Hayward district; promote an integrated multi-subject teaching and learning curriculum; and pursue an overarching aim of nurturing healthy community stewardship. Our goal is to educate children to be active, aware citizens with the skills and knowledge to participate meaningfully in the diverse and challenging new century.
