Conejo Valley CROP Walk

About

The CROP Hunger Walk is an annual event in more than 1,500 communities around the nation. It is a locally organized event that is a primary funding source for the interdenominational Church World Service (CWS) charity. The mission of CWS is to “Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, heal the sick, comfort the aged, shelter the homeless.” CWS was founded in 1946, in the aftermath of World War II, and CROP began a year later as the Christian Rural Overseas Program to provide food aid to devastated regions of Europe and Asia. The CROP program exists no more but the CROP walks have been ongoing since 1969 and are considered one of the original charity walks. Last year our Conejo Valley walk had over 400 walkers that raised over $41,000! This money is used worldwide to promote the global mission of CWS, but 25% of the money stays in our community to support local organizations deal with the issues of homelessness and food security. That means that over $10,000 stayed here and was donated to the Manna community food bank, Westlake Village and Conejo Valley Meals on Wheels and the LSS Community Care Center.
