About

Legacy Youth Mentoring

Who we are:  Legacy Youth Mentoring

Mentoring is a one-on-one relationship between a youth and a caring adult. Legacy Youth Mentoring inspires lives through friendship building which helps a student appreciate their personal strengths while developing the skills they need to succeed.  Legacy Youth Mentoring seeks to close the mentoring gap in our community by providing caring, adult mentors for students who will benefit from a mentoring relationship.  LYM serves students in 3 school systems in Jackson County by providing friendship-based mentoring experiences for students who are selected by parent request, teacher referral or school counselor recommendation. 1 in 3 young people will grow up without a mentor of any type. We aim to close this gap in our community through enlisting a team of caring adults who will share friendship and make a difference in the life of a student. Mentors spend 30 minutes weekly with their student during the school day. Potential mentors must attend a 1 1/2 hour training session, complete a background check, and commit to one school year of youth mentoring.

Legacy Youth Mentoring inspires lives through one-on-one mentoring while helping youth discover their personal strengths to guide them toward success.

We envision a Jackson County community where every youth will have a mentoring friendship and know with certainty that someone cares about them and wants to help them achieve personal success.
