San Antonio Fighting Back, Inc.

San Antonio Fighting Back (SAFB) was established in 1989 as a comprehensive crime, substance abuse, and violence prevention and community improvement program of the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. On May 18, 2002, SAFB became a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation. SAFB is a community partnership, which serves as a neutral facilitator and catalyst for improving the quality of life of those most at risk (i.e. high risk youth, substance abusers, ex-offenders and offenders) and in neighborhoods with the highest crime, substance abuse, and violence rates through the reduction of substance abuse, crime and violence. SAFB has done this through implementing six key strategies which are public awareness, community empowerment through organizing and mobilization, capacity building for problem solving, environmental change, community development and economic restoration, and public policy advocacy. SAFB focuses on maximizing the use of resources and increasing the capacity of communities to solve their own problems and become self-sufficient while "changing systems, polices, and institutional practices" to meet changing population needs.

Mission: The mission of San Antonio Fighting Back is to provide partnerships, collaborations and direct services to create safe, healthy and caring communities by addressing the root causes and symptoms of drug related crime, substance abuse, victimization and violence.
