We have enrolled more than 5,000 students who are incarcerated and are seeking a chance to learn, improve, and grow. Through a mutually-annonymous correspondence school with careful guidance and quality control, volunteers "readers," get to read and respond to students' wonderful poetry, writings and work through our 25 courses. Other volunteers, "office helpers," come in to review the readers' responses and ensure our guidelines are met. No experience is necessary! Just a willingness to respond thoughtfully, respectfully and promptly to student coursework. The thousands of grateful testimonial letters we receive from students are overwhelming, like this one: "I always say that if you're not learning, you're not truly alive. Thanks for helping us live."
