Rosies Garden, in Rankin County, Mississippi, is a community garden that provides fresh produce to those in need. The idea sprouted, if you will, from the minds of Thomas and Michele Harris, on whose land the garden grows. They had a vision of a place that would not only provide donations of fresh food (rather than all the canned stuff), but also a place where members of youth groups and organizations could contribute service hours while learning about the value of working the land. They named the garden in loving memory of the late Rose Harris, beloved matriarch of the Harris family. The late Tom Harris, Sr., husband of Rose and master gardener, oversaw the soil preparation and planting and was at the heart of the beginnings of Rosies Garden, right up until his passing in September 2016.
