The mission of THRU Project is to help youth overcome the challenges of growing up in the foster care system by providing guidance, support and advocacy in order to prepare them for life after foster care.
Youth often leave foster care, at the age of 18, with no permanent housing, little education or job training and, most important, without a single, trusted adult to guide and support them in this critical time. Without help, the majority of these young men and women will be homeless. incarcerated or victimized within just one year of leaving foster care.
By matching current and former foster with a volunteer mentor, they have a significantly greater chance of completing their education, enrolling in higher education and being employed.
