Current programs and projects include:
The Learning Moving Image Festival - A festival where moving image makers can screen their work and get valuable feedback from respected members of the community. Screening takes place at the Humboldt Park Art Fair.
The noisivelvet public art award - An award created for community college artists competing in their student art shows. The program is currently active at Southwestern Illinois College and Lewis & Clark Community College, with plans to expand to other Illinois community colleges in 2012.
The noisivelvet publishing assistance - A program for new authors seeking support in getting their first work published and printed. The deadline for the 2012 year is September 30, 2011 with notifications going out in early December, 2011.
The mobile garden project - An art installation of a native plant garden onto a CTA flat train car with regular service. With the blessing of the CTA to move forward on this, noisivelvet continues to search for a corporate partner to carry the contract to feature ideas of responsible materials, urban stewardship, and sustainability.
Mission: Our mission statement: advocate for the arts, and artists making public work. The organization is active in creating opportunities for artist to create public work. The organization became a recognized 501(C)(3) not for profit in 2009. We help artists make public art exclusively for educational purposes, and to conduct exhibitions, concerts, lectures and multi-disciplinary events.
