STEM From Dance (SFD) unlocks the vast potential in under-represented minority, high school girls to become future STEM leaders by enriching their STEM education, intimately exposing them to the wonders of STEM, and using dance to equip them with the confidence, empowerment, and cognitive-thinking skills to pursue a STEM education.
Why STEM? Since nearly 80% of future careers will require awareness of and facility with STEM, math and science courses have become the gateway to economic freedom and choice. Yet, approximately 2% of STEM workers are Black or Hispanic women (U.S. Department of Commerce Report Education, 2011).
Mission: To eliminate barriers and increase access, STEM From Dance uses dance to enhance the whole person and to increase the number of under-represented minority, high school girls across the nation who pursue a STEM college education.
