Education Through Music

ETM works with schools and community leaders to build the capacity to sustain long-term programming. ETM's primary activities are its multi-year partnerships with New York City public and parochial schools that lack sufficient resources for school-wide music education. In each partnership, ETM staff works with the principals to design a program that addresses the individual partner school's needs, and incorporates comprehensive, year-long music instruction for every child, including those in special education. Through these programs, ETM seeks to achieve improvements in student performance in and attitudes towards the arts and school; teachers' effectiveness in educating children; schools and community understanding of and support for arts education; and schools efforts toward sustaining programs independently.

ETM currently serves over 14,000 at-risk children in 28 schools in New York City, and our programming is being adopted by school systems accross the country, including our affliates in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Mission: Education Through Music (ETM) partners with inner-city schools to provide music as a core subject for all children, and utilizes music education as a catalyst to improve academic achievement, motivation for school, and self-confidence.
