By providing mentors to this community, the Bronx One on One Mentoring (BOOM) program can begin to help guide the lives of youth in ways that can speak, more directly, to their individual needs. Bringing support services to the hard working parents and educators who are already in the lives of these children, that is what BOOM is all about. Supporting youth, helping them achieve their respective goals, guiding them away from the strangling hold of poverty/broken homes and helping caregivers and educators meet the needs of our children, whatever they are, hands on; BOOM seeks to provide mentoring to youth in all areas of academic study and provide recreational activities for both the mentee/mentors while cultivating the aforementioned relationship, that is how we begin to break down perceptual/cultural barriers and create change capable of lasting into the future.
Mission: The program's goal is to identify and service 225 youth, between 4th and 8th grade, who are at risk of becoming victim to the overwhelming challenges associated with living in the urban condition. Youth, in the High-Bridge community particularly, are economically challenged, live in one parent or no parent homes, are in the custody of grandparents or simply live in the care of a guardian(s). We are poised to impact the youth of this community, as we are the only mentoring program in the area, on a level that will allow the youth to work past their challenges and become positive, productive and successful leaders in of this community and in the community of this nation.
