Founded in 2001, Forklift Danceworks has become a treasured Austin arts organization for its work transforming communities through the creative process. The company engages a wide range of civic workers and others through the creation of unique dance projects. Using the movement that comes from daily life as the choreographic starting point and casting community members as the primary performers in these projects, Forklift produces free performances that are consistently seen by capacity crowds of 500 - 6,000. Previous performances have featured City of Austin sanitation workers, firefighters, guide dogs and their owners, Austin Symphony Conductor Peter Bay, linemen and electrical technicians from Austin Energy, the Huston-Tillotson Baseball team, and Austin's Parks and Recreation Department.
