Sunrise Therapeutic Riding Center promotes the health and social development of physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged individuals thruogh equine assisted therapeutic activities. Sunrise was founded in 1980 when Carol and Margaret Inglis, along with Janice Edelman, saw a need in their community to provide an equine therapy along with an emotional uplift to a individuals facing significant personal challenges. They became certified through North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) and began giving lessons to riders in need. Today, Sunrise, Inc. is now a certified barn under the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH). Our instructors are fully certified through PATH, as well as in first aid. Sunrise offers several programs to children, adults and our country's veterans to improve their quality of life. Our lessons our given on our 100 acre ranch located among rolling hills on the east side of Richmond. Our staff of 9 very special therapy horses provide weekly lessons to nearly 5o individuals. Sunrise welcomes volunteers who would like to assist our riders as horse leaders, sidewalkers, and more.
