Who We Are United Way of Whitewater Valley is sharpening its focus by addressing key issues to create lasting changes in people's lives. We're becoming more focused in making strategic choices, which is critical, because needs are growing faster than resources. Together with community partners, we will concentrate our efforts on pressing issues defined by the community.The United Way Foundation and its partners engaged the community in a discussion of the pressing needs and the greatest concerns in the Whitewater Valley. The information contained in the Community Voices Assessment led to the creation of four Focus Areas: Community Vitality Vision #1 - Families and individuals have the basic necessities to meet their needs through coordinated programs and services Vision #2 - Access to prevention and treatment programs related to crime and violence, especially as it relates to families Education: Vision #1 - Youth achieve educational goals necessary to become positive, contributing members of the community. Vision #2 - Schools and community organizations have greater agreement about their respective roles in supporting youth and increase collaboration and coordination consistent with these roles. Youth & Families: Vision #1 - Community resources are accessible, integrated and focused to assist youth at risk. Health Vision #1 - Residents have access to prevention and treatment programs related to abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Vision #2 - Accurate information about wellness and healthy living is available and utilized effectively. What We Do United Way is a non-profit organization that coordinates fund-raising efforts and awards funding to nonprofits in order to meet identified needs within communities of the Whitewater Valley. The United Way of Whitewater Valley is dedicated to improving the lives of the people of Wayne and Union Counties by mobilizing the caring power of these communities.
