AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program that works to eliminate poverty. VISTA program participants develop initiatives that enable people to become self-sufficient and secure. AmeriCorps VISTA is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), a federal agency that works to improves lives, strengthens communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.
The Brown University AmeriCorps VISTA Fellows Program is a full-time, post-graduate service and fellowship opportunity through the Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University. The Swearer Center works to create a community of scholars, students, practitioners, and community members that work together to build on community strengths and address community challenges. We are committed to change in our community by developing high impact, sustainable, and reciprocal community partnerships. VISTA Fellows are matched with a local organization, state agency, or a Swearer Center department to build capacity in organizations fighting poverty. In 2017 the Swearer Center became an AmeriCorps VISTA intermediary; an organization that administers an AmeriCorps VISTA program that places VISTA members with 'sub-sites' or 'host agencies' to complete their term of service.
Through this group sub-sites can connect with the Swearer Center and with each other to share information, resources, opportunities, and events of interest with the group. Sub-sites can also ask questions and troubleshoot collectively on issues that may arise related to the program or members. The Swearer Center will post and share all program information, calendars, events etc. Updates resources will always live here to hopefully make it easier for sub-sites to access throughout the year.
