Nature and Purpose of Agency

MOMMAS is a home for young mothers aged 18 to 24 years and their babies.  For approximately two years, the young mothers at MOMMAS House continue education or vocational experience interrupted by pregnancy.  With guidance and direction, the young mothers can learn to support themselves and their children independently.

Tasks available for students

Volunteers are needed for various tasks including providing childcare, tutoring, creating a donation drive, fundraising, web design, marketing and brochure design, event coordination, and workshop presentations.

A workshop presenter has something to offer our mothers. A unique educational experience that will open their eyes to important life skills; this includes parenting skills, newborn care, nutrition, budgeting, resume writing, conflict management, cooking, exercise class...you name it! We want to expose our residents to as much information as possible. Anything that you think would enrich their lives; we want to hear about it. Workshops typically take place in the evening (6:30 to about 8:30) Monday to Thursday. We have three residences in Hempstead, Jericho, and Glen Cove, but if you would only like to present locally, we will work with your schedule. You will be asked to give us a brief outline of what you will be discussing with the girls, and copies of any materials you may hand out.

Locations in: Glen Cove, Hempstead, and Jericho

*All volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation prior to beginning volunteer work.

Information on volunteering/orientations should e-mail Jill Klein at: volunteer@mommashouse.org

<>·         <>Students who want to have direct contact with moms and children are required to attend an orientation. For group project, only one person is required to attend.  They are held monthly at the office in Wantagh at 7pm.
