Nature and Purpose of Agency
The Queens Volunteer Lawyers Project, Inc. (QVLP) is a not-for-profit legal assistance program providing attorneys on a pro bono basis to residents of Queens County who cannot afford to retain a lawyer to resolve their civil legal problems involving basic human needs. QVLP assists clients in civil law cases for foreclosure, uncontested divorce, eviction, consumer debt, will drafting, and chapter 7 bankruptcy. QVLP does not provide “legal advice” except at our CLARO Consumer Debt Clinic or at our Foreclosure Prevention Information Table at Queens Supreme Court. If an applicant meets eligibility requirements QVLP will provide free representation by a pro bono volunteer attorney or by a QVLP staff attorney. QVLP assists or provides referrals to approximately 5,000 applicants per year.
