MOSTE partners with schools to run this one-on-one grassroots mentoring program. Middle-school girls attend monthly MOSTE workshops at their schools (we're at five middle schools in Southern California), group activities on weekends and go out one-on-one with their mentors. These components of the program all serve to reinforce the message of the importance of attending college.
Mission: Mentoring Our Students Through Experience, or MOSTE, is a one-on-one nonprofit mentoring organization that pairs professional women with 7th- and 8th-grade inner-city girls in the L.A. and Pasadena school districts. The goal is to prepare these girls for college, give them a head start on their dreams of earning a degree. Often these girls know of no one who has gone to college. Mentors in our organization provide a powerful role model of how to succeed by obtaining a college diploma.
