Global Youth Ambassadors Program

The Global Youth Ambassadors Program is a comprehensive education initiative that targets high school students to become competitive in the global economy through leadership training (i.e. leadership skills development, foreign language instruction, cultural competence, community service) and international travel. The Global Youth Ambassadors Program has been recognized nationally and locally "as a best in class" youth program by the National Association of County Commissioners (NACo) in 2012 and the Atlanta Business Chronicle Governor's International Awards in 2013. GYAP addresses a critical unmet need in Metro Atlanta and the State of Georgia, which is the disproportionate number of residents from disadvantaged backgrounds, who access the global economy through professional careers. GYAP creates a potential pipeline for high school students to learn about international cultures, increase their proficiency in a foreign language, enhance their cultural competency, and cultivate their leadership skills. Since its inception in 2008, over 250 high school students from Atlanta, Georgia have participated in a leadership program and traveled to such countries as South Africa, Germany, Turkey, Brazil, China, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Panama. Based on parent and student satisfaction surveys, nearly every past participant has indicated that the program has had a significant impact on their lives. Student participants have indicated growth in their leadership skills, public speaking abilities, foreign language proficiency, and knowledge of the global economy.
