Valley Collaborative Elementary School

Program Description
The elementary program prides itself on providing a school experience while supporting our students with the tailored therapeutic environment they require. Our program is rich in trained professionals, supports and technology specific to our population but we are still a school. All students have access to literacy, math, language and writing as well as content area (science and social studies) instruction. Students engage in weekly specials of physical education, art education, life skills classes and music therapy. On Fridays we host electives in order for students to have choice in their academic programming. Some of our elective choices have included lego club, basketball, cooking or music class.
Our school community engages in monthly all school-wide events such as Fire Safety Week, mobile fieldtrips, and awarding Students of the Month each month. Community outings are common for all programs and allow students to generalize their skills to other settings. Some classrooms visit local stores to conduct simple purchases and others enjoy more leisure-based outings such as Sky Zone. Our classrooms are equipped with technology such as smart boards, Ipads, Kindles and laptops to engage and enhance our curricula.
We welcome family involvement in our program. Many families find this a helpful and healthy link to the school. Volunteers for school events are always needed and our Parent Advisory Group is very active in our community.  We also understand that family communication is paramount. We work with outside agencies and families to establish a communication schedule that allows the student to be most successful.
As well as teachers and trained aides, our program has a wealth of therapists to assist our students and train our staff in the most current research-based intervention strategies. Our integrated therapy approach provides Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Speech/Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Music Therapists, and Social Workers that work with the classroom staff to ensure the whole child's needs are met.
