Southern Pines Animal Shelter

We are Southern Pines Animal Shelter, and we are glad you are considering joining our lifesaving volunteer team. At Southern Pines staff and volunteers work together in pursuit of our lifesaving mission. Our mission is to provide humane shelter for homeless and lost cats and dogs, provide affordable spay/neuter and healthy pet services, encourage adoptions and educate the community about responsible pet ownership.

Since 2017, we have operated as the state's largest open-admission animal shelter to reach "no-kill" status. Healthy and treatable animals are never euthanized to save on space or time at our shelter. In 2019 alone, we took in 7,453 pets and maintained a lifesaving rate of over 97%. Volunteers are one of the pillars that support our lifesaving mission and make this possible, donating just under 4,000 hours of volunteer service in 2019.

As a certified #ServiceEnterprise, we are among the top 11 percent of organizations in volunteer management and organizational performance. We are proud to be one of the latest organizations to complete the two-year certification process and join the movement to strategically engage volunteers in our mission.

Please attend an orientation before volunteering.
