GTCH 1001 Step 1: Inquiry Approaches to Teaching

This class has been closed and is no longer open.

About

Students who want to explore teaching careers become familiar with lesson plan development by writing, teaching, and observing lessons in an elementary school classroom. While students build and practice inquiry-based lesson design skills, they also become familiar with and practice classroom management in the elementary school setting. As a result of the Step 1 experiences, students are able to decide to continue exploring teaching as a career. Through this experience local teachers gain exposure to new pedagogical and innovative innovative inquiry based lessons, and local students engage in lessons which feature activity content to spark interest in lifelong learning and interest in STEM. I emailed you individually if you have not yet submitted any impacts for GWTCH 1001 on Give Pulse. I realize that many of you have set your impact settings to "Private." When you add an impact on Give Pulse, be sure that you click “Public” and not “Private.” If your setting is set to private, others will not be able to see your impacts. In other words, I will not be able to see if the impact was added correctly (which could impact it's verification) and Professor Bitler would not be able to see it.
If you have set impacts to Private, please adjust them as soon as possible.

If you are unable to select "Public" at the bottom of your impact, you can follow the steps below or visit Making Impacts Public in the "Documents" tab.
-Click "Hi (your name)" in the upper right hand corner next to the mail icon.
-Then click "Account."
-On the left-hand side of the new page, click "Settings."
-Here, you will see a box that says "Private," be sure to unclick this box so you are not set to Private.
**This will allow you to click "Public" when adding your impact.

To note, if you adjust the impact, it will not need to be reverified. If you decide to delete and then re-add the impact, it will need to be reverified.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Please join us at the Symposium for Dr. Grooms' session on education and service with your GW teach cohort! Before the session, there will be lunch. To register for the Symposium and for lunch, please click here.

Link: https://givepul.se/5dn7dq
Registration for the Symposium will close TONIGHT at midnight Dec. 1st. All students must register to attend whether you are presenting or not in order to both get class credit and be included in the lunch count please click here https://givepul.se/5dn7dq

For more information on the symposium and how to create a showcase presentation click these links https://serve.gwu.edu/symposium-community-engaged-scholarship (you’ll see a button with a link for information for presenters). The link answers most of the frequently asked questions about what presenting at the symposium looks like.
In the "Documents" section, I added a PDF named "Nashman Student Opportunities." If you are interested to continue work in the community, be sure to check out this Power Point for grant and project opportunities.

If you have any questions about the Power Point, submitting impacts, the Symposium, etc., don't hesitate to ask.
If you have not yet submitted any impacts for GTCH 1001 on Give Pulse, I emailed you individually.

As the end of the semester approaches, here are some important reminders about logging service hours:

Do NOT wait until the last minute to log your service hours.

-When you add an impact on Give Pulse, be sure that you click “Public” and not “Private.” If your setting is set to private, others will not be able to see your impacts. In other words, I will not be able to see if the impact was added correctly (which could impact it's verification) and Professor Bitler would not be able to see it.

-If you have set impacts to Private, please adjust them as soon as possible.

-Also, be sure to share the impact with GTCH 1001.
Just a reminder, be sure to log your hours on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
Do NOT log all of your service hours at the last minute.
**Reminders**
