PRS, Inc.

About

PRS is a community-based 501(c)(3) organization that provides those with mental illness, emotional and/or behavioral disorders with the skills training and supports they need to live and work in the community while working toward their recovery goals. We work alongside our clients at all phases of recovery, teaching them, step-by-step, how to live independently. With Centers in McLean and Mt. Vernon, VA, and residential sites throughout Northern Virginia, PRS offers a comprehensive array of programs including curriculum-based day program called the Recovery Academy, Community Housing, Employment Services and Community Support Services.

Recovery Academy provides a structured curriculum-based program where clients can develop skills, build relationships and receive support as they work toward their recovery goals. The Recovery Academy, based on the structure of a local community college, is designed to: provide targeted psycho-educational interventions in twelve-week blocks; be a normalizing environment so that each client can focus on his recovery goals and identify as a student in recovery and not as a person living with mental illness; and, most importantly, promote transition from PRS' facility-based programming into meaningful community alternatives such as work, volunteering and school.

Employment Services provide career counseling, on-the-job assessments, work-adjustment training classes, job search support groups and specialized services for individuals with professional technical skills. Employment Specialists teach clients about job expectations, interviewing for a position and coping with symptoms on the job; work to ensure that the client's transition to work runs smoothly; and provide support to clients once employed.

Community Housing makes permanent housing and an array of support services available to adults with mental illness, emotional and/or behavioral disorders throughout Northern Virginia, providing case management, community-living skills training, supportive counseling and crisis intervention for clients living in homes directly operated by PRS.

Community Support Services make supported-living services available to adults with psychiatric disabilities who live independently in the community or with family caregivers, and provide supports including community-living skills training, supportive counseling, case management and crisis intervention delivered in the recipient's home or in community settings.

Mission: PRS, Inc. works to promote recovery and self-direction for Northern Virginians with mental illness, emotional and/or behavioral disorders through skills training and individualized supports.
