Special Olympics Texas - South Region

The mission of Special Olympics Texas is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Volunteers aged 15 years and older may volunteer on there own.
Volunteers aged 8-14  must be accompanied by parent, guardian, or chaperone and volunteer in the role their adult has been assigned. Groups with younger volunteers should maintain a 4:1 ratio of volunteers to adults..
Youth under the age of 8 are welcome to come out and cheer on all the competitors and should stay with an adult at all times.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate athletic clothing and non-marking closed toe shoes. Groups coming out to volunteer together are encouraged to wear company or organization t-shirts. Most of our events are outdoors so we would encourage you to bring sunscreen, bug spray, bottled water (we will have re-fill stations), snacks, a hat, and anything else that will make your time more comfortable.

To ensure the health, safety, and comfort of our competitors, please refrain from bringing any animals other than service animals with you when you volunteer. Some of our athletes are not comfortable around pets or may approach pets without permission.

We want all of our volunteers to enjoy their experience so please be sure to share any concerns or suggestions with our staff. Long term and leadership volunteer opportunities are available so please be sure to ask if you want to enhance your volunteer experience.
