Mission
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

AGE ELIGIBILITY FOR VOLUNTEERS
15 years and older can volunteer by themselves.
8-14 year olds must be accompanied by parent, guardian, or chaperone. If in a group, then there must be a 4:1 ratio of children/teens to adults.
7 years and younger are not given volunteer assignments but are welcomed and encouraged to be cheerleaders as long as they are accompanied by a parent, guardian, or chaperone.

APPAREL Wear weather-appropriate athletic clothing and non-marking shoes. If you have one, wear a shirt that represents your organization. Most of our events are outdoors so we would encourage you to bring sunscreen, bug spray, bottled water (we will have re-fill stations), snacks, a hat, and anything else that will make your time more comfortable.

NO ANIMALS
 Special Olympics has a no animal policy. Other than service animals, no animals are allowed at this event. Please do not bring any animals or pets with you. Most of our events are outdoors so we would encourage you to bring sunscreen, bug spray, bottled water (we will have re-fill stations), snacks, a hat, and anything else that will make your time more comfortable.

 To our athletes, volunteers, families and friends of Special Olympics Texas, we want to update you in regards to the news about the Coronavirus (link to the CDC information page) and the impact to Special Olympics Texas.

Your health and safety are top priority, as well as the health and safety of the Special Olympics Texas community.  Please refer to this page of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention website for all tips. If you do not feel well or have been in contact with others who do not feel well, please stay at home. Wash your hands often, use hand sanitizer, avoid high-fives, avoid handshakes, and avoid contact with your face.
