Volunteer at For Love of Children
"From what we get, we can make a living. What we give, however, makes a life."
- Arthur Ashe
Hello! Welcome to For Love of Children's volunteer page. We are happy that you are interested in working with Washington, DC's children, and we need you!
We believe that by extending a helping hand and giving children the tools they need to succeed, doors to new worlds will be opened and dreams will become reality. Volunteers go a long way in helping those dreams come true. According to one research study*, children who interact regularly with influential, positive adults are:
46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs 27% less likely to begin drinking alcohol 52% less likely to skip school 33% less likely to hit someone
What should I expect when I become a FLOC volunteer?
To learn a lot about yourself To be stood up sometimes To discover new talents To not always feel appreciated To make a new friend The child to tell everyone else how much fun s/he has with you A healthy dose of fulfillment A challenge Expect your life to change
A FLOC tutor establishes a one-on-one relationship with a child in Washington, DC, and works with that student in our proven curriculum designed to improve fundamental reading and math skills. FLOC's doors are open for tutoring Tuesday and Thursday evening and Saturday mornings and afternoons. Tutoring is also conducted at school sites around the District of Columbia on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Training and support are available to you at all times along the way.
Mission: For Love of Children (FLOC) provides educational services beyond the classroom to help students succeed from first grade through college and career. We bring together students, volunteers, families, and community partners in proven programs that teach, empower, and transform.
