About
Mission: Pelican Harbor Seabird Station is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of sick, injured or orphaned brown pelicans, seabirds, and other native wildlife; and the preservation and protection of these species through educational and scientific means.
Vision: As a trusted wildlife rehab center, Pelican Harbor Seabird Station embodies professionalism, compassion, and integrity. Through innovation, education, and outreach, we provide the highest quality of patient care while promoting the importance of conservation in the community.
In 2021, we treated 2,129 patients spanning more than 135 native species. Since our inception in 1980, over 36,734 patients and 300 species of birds have been treated. We see many injuries but our most common reasons for admission are injuries due to fishing line and tackle entanglements and orphaned animals.
Pelican Harbor Seabird Station depends on volunteers to care for the thousands of animals we receive each year. Volunteer duties include light cleaning indoors and outdoors as well as feeding. We also have our Operation Rescue and Release volunteer program for you to train to capture, contain, and transport injured patients to us and you'll also have the opportunity to release them if they make a full recovery! All volunteers must be at least 18 and carry their own medical insurance.
