Musical Instrument Museum

About

MIM is the worlds first global instrument museum. It pays homage to the familiar and unfamiliar sounds that represent our common language - music. Music accompanies and marks the rhythms and passages of our lives as well as providing listening pleasure.

No other musical instrument collection in the world fascinates and inspires its guests quite like MIM. This museum is a unique place where people of diverse backgrounds can experience instruments and music from cultures around the world. The experience reinforces not only what is unique about cultures, but also what is shared and universal. It helps us understand the musical contributions of global cultures and humanitys universal expression of life, art and ritual.

At any given time, MIM exhibits approximately 5,000 indigenous and popular folk instruments from every country of the world. Most of these will be from the MIM collection of over 14,000 instruments. The 190,000 square foot facility attracts 250,000-500,000 guests per year. Our goal is that each of them will emerge with a greater understanding of how instruments have sounded out the rhythm of life through centuries, cultures, and continents.

Mission: The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) enriches the world by collecting, preserving, and making accessible a wide variety of musical instruments and performance videos from every country in the world. We offer our guests a welcoming and fun experience, incomparable interactive technology, dynamic programming and exceptional musical performances. MIM also fosters appreciation of diverse cultures around the globe by showing that we all innovate, adapt and learn from each other to create music--the universal language.
