Get Involved and Get Inspired! If you are passionate about sports, healthy living, seniors, your community or enjoy giving your talent and expertise - we need you! From August 1 -15, 10,000 athletes, age 50 and over from across the country will compete in 18 medal sports and 7 demonstration sports. These men and women are inspirational role models for all of us, as they personify and embody the spirit of lifelong wellness captured in the slogan of the 2009 Senior Games - "Long Live the Challenge" Help us create a special experience for these athletes - and we promise it will be a memorable experience for you! About the Summer National Senior Games: The Summer National Senior Games is the largest multi-sport event in the world for men and women athletes 50 and older. Held every two years, the event promotes healthy lifestyles for seniors through education, fitness and sport. The Games encourage the athletes to achieve greater value and quality in their lives by staying healthy, active and fit and to continue to accept challenges, both physically and mentally. Most of the competition is scheduled to take place on the beautiful campus of Stanford University. Beyond the campus, softball takes place in Sunnyvale, bowling and horseshoes in San Jose, cycling in San Mateo County, golf and lawn bowling in Palo Alto, the triathlon and rowing in Redwood City, golf in San Francisco, sailing on San Francisco Bay and fencing on Treasure Island. In total, more than 800 games, matches, races and challenges will be held over 16 days. Sports: Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Bowling, Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Golf, Horseshoes, Lawn Bowling, Race Walk, Racquetball, Road Race, Rowing, Shuffleboard, Sailing, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track & Field, Triathlon, Volleyball, Water Polo
