Early Youth Eyecare Community Initiative Program Overview
The Phillips Eye Institutes Early Youth Eyecare (E.Y.E.) Community Initiative strives to remove vision problems as a major roadblock to learning by providing regular vision screenings and subsequent treatment services to Minneapolis school children in Kindergarten, 1 st, 3 rd, 5 th, and 6 th grades. In addition to free screening services, EYE conducts comprehensive follow-up by working with families to identify and remove barriers to receiving treatment: offering interpreter services, free transportation, and pays for vision care for uninsured or underinsured children. E.Y.E. serves over 14,500 students annually, and engages a workforce of 200 trained volunteers to deliver the service each school year.
The success of the E.Y.E. Program has been widely recognized - having received the Minnesota Hospital Association Community Benefit Award for Small Hospitals and the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce Quality of Life Award.
Mission: Mission: The Phillips Eye Institute Foundation's mission is to further Phillips Eye Institute's commitment to eye care excellence, education, research and community involvement while honoring the legacy of Mount Sinai Hospital.
