Metro North Adult Basic Education is a well established program, known as a collaborative partner sharing resources and working to find new and innovative ways to meet the needs of our communities. We have been serving a diverse population of adult learners in the north metro communities of the Twin Cities, (Minneapolis and St Paul) for more than 30 years. Metro North ABE is one of the largest consortiums in the state and recognized as a leader in best practices in adult basic education.
We are made up of 9 school districts, providing free classes to adults in learning English, citizenship, basics in reading, writing and math skills, preparation for college placement, GED preparation, diploma, basic computer skills, transitions to post-secondary, and work place readiness. Last year we provided services to over 6000 learners. About half are learning English in our ESL program, and the other half are in basic skills development, GED, and other classes.
Metro North's diversity is not only in its adult learners, but its sites are unique in offering urban, suburban, ruaral and small town settings. Covering the northern part of the Twin Cities, the consortium covers these school districts: Anoka-Hennepin, Brooklyn Center, Centennial, Columbia Heights, Elk River, Fridley, Forest Lake, Spring Lake Park and St Francis.
Mission: Metro North will inspire and challenge all learners to reach their full potential. In a safe and supportive environment, we will teach the skills needed to succeed as responsible citizens in our changing world.
