Walking School Bus' are groups of young people in grades K-8 who walk to school together under the supervision of trained adult mentors. Walking School Bus travel along a pre-planned route, typically no longer than two miles, picking up youth at different locations until they arrive safely at school. Groups can meet anywhere from one morning per month to twice daily depending on the level of interest.
Our program is currently operating at Brookshire (Winter Park), Eagles Nest (MetroWest Orlando), Indian River (Edgewater), Lake Sybelia (Orange County), Spirit (Deltona), and Stevenson Elementary (Merritt Island) schools.
Mission: Walking School Bus Central Florida partners with local communities to organize safe walking groups led by trained adult mentors. Benefits include safer pedestrians, increased physical activity, and new friendships. Walking School Bus Central Florida is a program of the Center for Public and Nonprofit Management in the School of Public Administration at the University of Central Florida.
