"It is not the aim of Children Are People to level the playing field. Our endeavor is to get disadvantaged young people on the field." -- Fred Bailey, Founder & Executive Director
As one of fifteen children of sharecroppers from Gallatin, Tennessee, Fred was born without the gift of full sight. Despite an intimate relationship with disadvantage, he received a Bachelor's degree from Tennessee State University, worked at General Electric and served as a middle school and high school wrestling coach.
What is his secret recipe for success? It begins and ends with the presence of caring adults in a child's life, adults who encourage ambition, model a positive work ethic and focus on personal responsibility. Knowing the influence adult mentors had in his life, Fred founded Children Are People, Inc. in order to provide these same advantages to youth in Sumner County, where he currently resides.
Desire + Ambition + Persistence = Work Ethic
