The Pomona Public library seeks to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the information and literacy needs of the community. The Library needs a variety of skilled volunteers who can make a meaningful contribution to the library, including Literacy, and Friends of the Library programs. Volunteers have opportunities to work on projects, work with teams of staff and other volunteers, and learn new skills.
Each volunteer applicant must submit an application to the Library Volunteer Services Coordinator for review and placement. Volunteers are selected on their qualifications and the needs of the library at any given time. Volunteers under the age of 18 are required to submit a signed parental/guardian consent form along with the volunteer application. Application forms are available in the Library. As a general rule, volunteers should be at least 16 years old. However, exceptions are made for students on a case-by-case basis.
Volunteers who want to share their skills, expertise, interests, hobbies, give of their time, and support to the community. Individuals can volunteer either on a weekly commitment or a one-time special event, and work on different duties which may arise at any given moment. Our volunteers perform clerical tasks, assist with library programs, promotional materials, signage, craft preparations, Children's Department activities, and the Grandparents and Books program.
The Pomona Public Library Literacy Program offers training workshops for volunteers who would like to tutor adults in reading and writing. Volunteers complete a 12-hour workshop and learn methods and techniques to help adults acquire or improve their reading skills. Contact the Literacy Service at (909) 620-2047 or at email@example.com
The Friends of the Pomona Public Library seek volunteers with skills in identifying and writing grants which secure funding in support of the library programs for Children, Teens and Adults. Volunteers with expertise in web site design and organizational marketing are also needed. The Friends of the Library also seek individuals with skills in the needle arts (knitting, crocheting, and quilting), who are willing to make and donate handcrafted items for Friends of the Library fundraising activities.
