Covid-19 Policy Update on In-Person Community Service (Fall 2021)
The Bonner Office of Civic Engagement (BOCE) remains committed to doing work that meaningfully addresses community needs. Because we care about the health of our students and our community, we want to provide the following guidelines as students return to in-person service.
For the Fall 2021 semester, in accordance with Spelman’s Path Forward and Return to Campus Plans, in-person community service activities will resume. Students are asked to continue to observe campus health and safety protocols which include mandatory mask wearing, frequent handwashing, disinfecting, and testing.
We have been working with community partners to identify and develop volunteer opportunities that keep the health and safety of all in mind. You can find those opportunities in Spelman Serves. Additionally, opportunities will be sent via email as they arise.
We know the tremendous benefits of in-person community service, both for students and for our community. We look forward to supporting in-person community service activities as long as it is safe to do so. We will revisit these guidelines for the Spring 2022 semester and in the event that community health conditions change to determine if adjustments are necessary.
Any students, faculty, staff or partners who have questions about this policy update can reach out to The Bonner Office of Civic Engagement at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Bonner Office of Civic Engagement works with students, faculty, staff, community partners and alumnae to facilitate common efforts that address the most pressing challenges of our time.
It is our goal that Spelman College, in partnership with the community, will empower students to become creative leaders, support nonprofit organizations in addressing community-identified needs, and inspire academic innovation and interdisciplinary problem solving.
