About
Goodwill Easterseals of the Gulf Coast serves 10,000 people each year with skills and supports to make their lives more full, their families stronger, and their communities better places to live and work. They do this through our mission of empowering people through Encouragement, Education and Employment. With over 25 programs working in concert, people in need of real help to lift themselves and their families out of poverty, deal with disabilities and medical needs, prepare their children for success in school, and make educational progress themselves, are able to make life-changing progress toward financial stability and successful, supportive family life. Adult GED, Literacy and Numeracy Tutoring This volunteer opportunity has a wide range of needs. Some Foley Center volunteers have taken charge of low level math classes, tutored ESL, taught reading, social studies, science and higher level math (algebra and geometry), and worked with adult students with traumatic brain injury, an autism spectrum diagnosis or more basic learning differences. Class times vary and are numerous, so they can work around most any schedule. The ultimate goal for our adult students is passing the GEDknowing you taught someone the skills that helped them pass the test is most rewarding! Service times and locations vary by class and should be arranged with the help of Foley Center staff and the coordinator for the GED programing. Student must have their own transportation.
