Literacy Coalition of Central Texas

About

The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas is launching an innovative parent education program in Austin, Texas, and we need your help to make it a success for families!

We need bilingual child care volunteers, to care for, play with, and supervise young children while their parents are in PALS classes.

Play and Learning Strategies (PALS) is a research-based parent education program that teaches parents specific ways to support their young children's cognitive, language, and social emotional development.

Child care is costly, so providing it on-site to families enrolled in PALS can make coming to classes easier and more fun for the whole family. Child care also allows parents to learn parenting techniques in a distraction-free environment.

Child care volunteers work in teams of two, to take care of 5-10 children, ages 1 to 6. Toys, snacks, and training—all are provided!

Requirements:
• experience caring for children
• 18 years or older
• pass a criminal background check• some proficiency in Spanish

Classes will take place at five locations in Austin, Texas. Classes meet once a week, for two hours. Class times vary by site, from early morning to early afternoon. Please contact for more information about specific sites.

We hope you will join us to bring high-quality programming to families in Central Texas, and in turn, to prepare the next generation for school and beyond.
