We are Switching to Email and Facebook!!! - Georgia Coastal Bird Ambassador Program

About

Welcome to Georgia Coastal Bird Ambassador's Page!

Here's all the information you'll need to get started!

If you're new to our program, please keep reading Step 1. If you've completed all your training, skip to Step
2 to sign up for shifts. For more resources, including the background video of the steward flip book, skip to Step 3.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 1:
We are looking to recruit volunteers and establish a steward program to teach beach users about shorebirds, seabirds and the importance of natural barrier island habitat. Watch our Information Video here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_HotWCYSuE9CxrQHK6vBiwhTvvTUsri3/view?usp=sharing

Stewards will be equipped with vests, guides, and handouts. Manomet's staff will be training, leading birding walks and field trips, and hosting virtual programs to help our volunteers learn about shorebirds, the Georgia Bight, and what we can do to help balance the needs of wildlife and humans. Our stewards will be posted near the North Jetty on Tybee Island, and on the beach in Saint Simon's island, during times of high beach usage in the spring and summer to engage in positive interactions with beach users.

You must watch the recording of Part 1 on YouTube before attending our In-Person Events. You can view it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fT8D-ws8MNY

Once you've watched Part 1, message Allie on this platform to coordinate an in-person training at either Tybee or St. Simons. After you complete both parts of the training, follow the steps in Step 2, below.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 2:
Get out on the beach in three easy steps!
1) Message Allie on the GivePulse platform to let her know when you'd like to go out.
2) Collect materials from the Science Center on Tybee, or Lydia's house on St. Simons. At the very least, grab binoculars, a vest, a flipbook, and material for the post-shift report (survey form, clipboard, or notebook)
3) Head out to the Wildlife Beach of your choosing, and be a voice for shorebirds.
4) Complete your Post-Shift Report on GoogleForms following your shift, which can be found here.

If you are interested in seeing how coverage looks, the calendar can be viewed here. This calendar is sometimes updated after volunteers submit Post-Shift reports, so it may not be updated in real time.
