Cornerstone Hospice

About

Hospice volunteers are a vital part of our entire organization, and play an active role in helping to provide the many special comfort and support services that distinguish Hospice care.

Volunteers choose from among many Hospice service areas. Some find their greatest satisfaction in serving as part of the team assisting patients and their families. Others enjoy office and clerical duties. Still others contribute as couriers, maintenance assistants at our facilities, or helping in a variety of community relations activities. Others help with our innovative "Pet Peace of Mind" program, or in recognizing Veterans who have served our country.

Our volunteers are special, but not out of the ordinary. They are regular people just like you. They use common sense and understanding. They do not need a medical background. They listen. They care. Volunteers help make a patient's remaining life more fulfilling and satisfying by giving their time, understanding, and support and asking nothing in return. They also provide support to caregivers who are often with the patient 24/7 and may need a much needed break. Any hospice volunteer will tell you that they feel they receive more from their hospice experience than they give.

PLEASE NOTE: All volunteers are required to go through a mandatory training class (16 hours total) with additional training required for some positions.

For this reason, becoming a hospice volunteer is typically not appropriate for court related community service hours or other short-term requests. Ideally, our volunteers commit to at least one year with us.

Mission: The mission of Cornerstone Hospice is to make quality hospice care available to all persons, their families, and those affected by death and dying in our community; to advocate effectively for patients comfort, dignity and choice; and to be recognized as the leading resource in clinical, ethical and spiritual issues of dying and grief.
