Such a fun experience, definitely recommend as a good way to get your volunteer hours!
Read letters from prisoners who requested specific book genres and found books to send back to them
One of the most rewarding volunteering experiences I have ever done. I would definitely recommend people go experience this type of service.
Spent the night dispersing books from their volunteer-supported library selection in order to get the books that interest the individual prison mates in order for them to have the capability to do so and read up and expand on their interests while they are serving time.
Came back a second time after visiting earlier in the week. It was a really good time just like my first vist.
Half-hour of training and an hour of volunteering to disperse books from their library selection in order to get the books into the hands of people who are in jail and have little ability to buy their own reading material but would like to spend their time reading. I had to leave early because I had a group presentation for one of my classes the next day and I had to prepare for that by meeting with my group.
Inside Books is a special place that does wonderful things for all of the members of the Texas prison system. This being my very first time volunteering, I was introduced to all of the work that they do, and I really enjoyed being part of something so special. Hearing people's stories and being a source of hope, inspiration, as well as education makes this a great experience and leaves you with the urge of wanting to come back and do more!
Volunteered with my TIP group at Inside Books Project writing letters and sending books to Texas inmates.
It's always fun to do this event
It was fun getting to pack books with the other people there. Reading the inmate letters really made me feel like I was connecting with them, and emphasized how non-different they are from me.
