Internship Description

Youth and Special Projects Coordinator

First and foremost, we need a coordinator to develop a Youth Advisory Program with the Met School and several community partners. Secondly, we would like to work with you to develop one other initiative based on our needs in the following areas: green infrastructure management, Botanical Center operations, urban forestry, event management, outdoor recreation, Museum of Natural History programs, cemetery history and operations, landscape architecture services, building and construction trade management, fund Development, and community organizing. During the first week, you will meet with all of our relevant division heads to learn about their work and priorities. You will then select an additional project and identify deliverables.

Daily Responsibilities

1)      Doing whatever is necessary to develop a youth advisory/stewardship program for the Parks Department and one other project.

2)      Seek assistance as needed, meet with project team weekly.

You will be given a lot of latitude to develop and shape the Youth Advisory Council and one other project that we mutually agree on.

 

What is the work environment like?

Each day will be different. You will work with the Parks team, community leaders and youth in the community, at parks, and in the office. You will have your own nook in an office in Roger Williams Park.

 

Deliverables

1)      Develop a sustainable Youth Advisory Council and education/training program/materials for the City of Providence Parks Department.

2)      (Examples) Develop a green infrastructure management and education initiative; initiate a public interface for North Burial Ground records and history, etc.

Mentoring or training opportunities

Our staff and resources represent a Botanical Center, urban forestry, environmental and wildlife education, event facilities, Museum of Natural History, cemeteries, landscape architectures, outdoor recreation, green infrastructure, local history, building and construction trade management, fund development, GIS, and community organizing.
