Event Description
Project Scope and Intern Position
While our primary programming occurs during the school year, we do have programming during
the summer that provides extended opportunities for our participants. These summer
opportunities include a two-week summer orientation for our new participants; a week-long
college experience on Brown’s campus in partnership with The Center for the Study of Slavery
and Justice; outdoor education for elementary students in partnership with Groundwork of
Rhode Island; Youth Leadership Institute, a week-long conference hosted by Annenberg
Institute for School Reform; series with Sojourner House; and volunteerism with WaterFire.
Students opt into each opportunity and work with adult allies. Each group is approximately 5-15
students.

The Iprov Intern will assist the Program Director with all these projects - working with partners,
designing curriculum, securing funding and donations, working directly with our young people,
and managing logistics and materials for each project. The intern will walk away with tangible
skills in communication, development, curriculum design, youth development/empowerment,
project management, and a good sense of grassroots organizing and nonprofit work.
Youth In Action is a friendly, youth centered space - we welcome a sense of humor, initiative,
curiosity and creativity. Our work is aligned with social justice values and our vision is rooted in
social change.
