Event DescriptionThe English Language/Civics program at American Youthworks provides adult English learners the opportunity to experiment with language in our computer, conversation, reading, and writing labs, while recieving classroom instruction from our committed instructors.

We are seeking volunteers to work with adult English language students in these learning lab environments.

Some of the volunteer's responsibilities will include:
- helping students operate computers and navigate the web
- engaging students in English conversation activities
- reviewing students' work with them before the end of the day- helping to reinforce basic study skills (organization of class materials, note-taking, self-monitoring, etc.).

Volunteers may also provide one-on-one tutoring for beginning literacy students.

No experience necessary, though some Spanish language ability is preferred.

Volunteer opportunities are available in our morning and night classes, Monday - Thursday, at our campus at 1901 Ben White Blvd, 78741. Morning class is held between 8:00-11:00am, and night class is from 6:00-8:30pm. We are looking for volunteers who can make a firm commitment to at least one day a week, preferably the same day each week. Consistency will be essential to our student's sense of stability, and the instructors' lesson planning.
